Unlock Your Creativity: 3 Ways a Creative Hobby Can Benefit You

Are you feeling depleted, burned out, and/or tired of the same mundane, every day hamster wheel? It wasn't too long ago I was feeling this way, too. Luckily I slowly found myself gravitating towards creative hobbies and activities, and found some amazing benefits in the process.

Here are 3 ways a creative hobby can benefit you!:

Reduces stress:
Hands up if you'd love to bring the stress levels down a notch (...or 10 notches)! Creative hobbies such as painting, drawing, or knitting can have a calming effect on the mind and body, reducing stress and promoting relaxation. These calming-yet-creative activities allow you to feel a sense of mindfulness, while stimulating your creativity. Engaging in a creative activity can also help to take your mind off of everyday stressors.

Improves mood and self-esteem: If you're looking for a mood booster....get creative! It may just be the perfect way to relax and unwind from the day. Creating something with your own hands can also provide a sense of accomplishment, which can improve your overall sense of well-being.

Provides an outlet for self-expression: Creative hobbies allow you to express yourself in a way that is unique to you. They can allow you to communicate your thoughts and feelings in a creative and freeing way. Those creative hobbies you find yourself nudging towards, may even tell you more about your authentic self.

    Quick story for you...

A few years ago while standing at the grocery store check-out line, my eyes gravitated towards a New Adult Coloring Book. Until this moment I knew I needed a new creative hobby, but I wasn't quite sure what I wanted it to be. Those empty doodles were screaming to be filled with color, and I decided this would be my new afternoon routine after a chaotic day at work.
I had no idea that this decision would change my life... not to be over-dramatic, but it's true. That creative outlet was a great way to destress from the day, unwind from the week, and enjoy something calming and creativity at the same time.
